Simeon Maynard makes his debut for Barbados at the FIBA Pre-Qualifiers
It is always a joy when we see a TBS product play for their senior national team, whether it is Santiago Yusta or Iván Aurrecoechea with Spain, or so many others for their respective countries, such as Moussa Diagne with Senegal, Gege Chaia with Brazil, Jhan Paul Mejía with Colombia, Miguel Dicent with the Dominican Republic, Ignacio Ansaldo with Chile, and those yet to come.
Since this weekend, we can already count on Simeon Maynard for Barbados on that list. The young point guard has been called up and made his debut with his home country national team in the FIBA Americas Pre-Qualifiers, qualifying for the 2027 World Cup windows in Qatar.
The 2004 native has averaged 4.0 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in fourteen minutes on the court in Ciudad Obregón, Mexico, where the three games of this competition format were held. Maynard faced Jamaica, Mexico, and Costa Rica, with his national team losing all three games.
He scored a career-high 9 points in seventeen minutes against the Jamaicans, while also attacking and defending at times against the island-country new NBA star, Norman Powell, who also finished as the Sixth Man of the Year in the NBA, last season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Maynard has been developing at Javi Limones for nearly three seasons, and we look back on his successes with the Junior categories, both as an Under-22 Gold, and also his debut and minutes with the TBS National Seniors.
Congratulations, kid!
