The U-22 teams with a weekend to remember

Podiums in U-22! What a weekend we just had this June 8th and 9th at Torrejón Basketball Academy, with our U-22 teams both reaching their final league phases in both the FBM Gold and Bronze categories. Huge merit to all our male players as well as Nacho Gallego, our head coach, and staff.

The Under-22 Bronze has been league champion in the Madrid Basketball Federation, this weekend defeating Mirasur School in a two-game final. First, and as visitors, falling to secure the win on a tight score (64-62) on Saturday, and with that -2 deficit, this Sunday we would come out inspired and with all the energy of our people backing us at the Javi Limones to turn it around (78-50 ) and have the party at our house.

To get there, the road was not easy at all. The Bronze squad has had to have a tremendous season and has also had to appear in clutch moments, to save games. A regular round of 21-1, an almost immaculate record, marked the path. A steamroller, at times, easily winning many of the twenty-two league games. In the Playoffs, in the Round of 16, we defeated Colegio Menesiano. Then, in the Quarterfinals, we beat Arroyomolinos C.B in two games to continue advancing. We reached the Semifinals, and Valcude Alcobendas B proved to be a worthy and tough rival, who knew how to beat us in the first game and take us to the heroics in the second game, to overcome an adverse point differential and with a triple in the last second by David Peral, at Javi Limones, to win and surpass this series with a positive margin of points. This memory, immortalized on video on the YouTube channel.

The U-22 Gold has been third in the league in the Madrid Basketball Federation, falling just short of reaching the grand final this weekend, having fallen narrowly in the first of the Final Four against Movistar Estudiantes (79-81 ), the game being defined on the free throw line. But, basketball would smile on us again to take the podium, on Sunday after defeating C.B Villa de Valdemoro (51-65) and thus reaching the bronze medal.

Also, the season of Nacho Gallego and his team during the regular round was the league leader in both categories, in Gold with a record of 20-2. We already beat C.D Tajamar in the Playoffs for the Round of 16 in two games in a row, and in the Quarterfinals, a complicated Virgen de Atocha also in a double match day, although in the second we made the most of it because we came from behind to tie it, forcing overtime and then we won.

Nacho Gallego, the experienced TBS coach of both teams, has given his assessment of the U-22 season: "Satisfaction. That is the word that defines the season of our U-22 Gold and Bronze teams. Objectives far exceeded by both teams."

"In the case of the U-22 Gold, the first objective of the club, which was to be in the Playoffs, was achieved as first in the group, a very strong group with rivals like Rivas or Zentro. Already in the Playoffs, both ties were overcome against Tajamar and Virgen of Atocha with a 2-0. In the Final Four in Madrid they lost to Estudiantes by -2 with 1.8 seconds left, and a great third place was achieved for Madrid. The second goal of forming was achieved with a great amount. of Junior players, working and debuting in the category, as academy players: Osvaldo Deocares, José Manuel Delgado, Luis Marena, Alonso Puiggros, Amadou Maiga, or Alioune Badara And the third; playing the core group of players such as Javier Sánchez or Rares Ghita, and others like Marcos Hermosilla, Daniel Ríos, Rober Román, Víctor María or Marco Pérez. In summary, great season for our boys," commented the long-tenured coach at Torrejón Basket.

Gallego, about the Bronze team: "As for our Bronze team, with a base made up of veterans like Alejandro Morado, Ismael Fernández, Álvaro Acero, Iván Vázquez or José Vicente plus a Junior group like Bethel, Jelani, Luis Marena, José Manuel Delgado and Osvaldo Deocares. More homegrown players like Raúl, Aarón and Álvaro, we managed to become champions, losing only one game in the regular phase. Already in the Playoffs, the schedule was more difficult, losing the first semi-final match away from home against Valcude Alcobendas and the first one of the finals against Mirasur, but the support of the fans was key to winning at our home. In short, spectacular season for our boys and a base to work on in the future."

A round of applause to the players who entered to compete in this cycle since their promotion as Juniors, as well as to the bulk of the age group on our squads for being the best and most consistent throughout the nine months of competition. At TBS, today, we bring medals and two trophies to our showcases and we could not be more satisfied with the constant work done. Thanks, teams!
