Torrejon is runner-ups at Saumur
What a Holy Week we have had here at TBS!
As has become customary in recent years, we traveled to France for a tournament that combines quality with a certain mystique: the TIM Saumur, in the small town of Saumur in the Pays de la Loire region of France.
With barely 30,000 inhabitants, for a few days each year, the entire town is practically dedicated to youth basketball with this renowned tournament that attracts everyone from international European teams to youth academies in the French Pro A league.
Our Torrejón delegation, led by David Sanz Jr. and Agustín Sánchez, won game after game in the group stage. They won convincingly, sometimes with added difficulty, and knew how to close out matches in the final moments.
Victories against:
(37-41) Étoile Angers
(28-62) CTC Vannes Agglomeration
(26-33) Baden-Baden BBW
Then, having already advanced to the Quarterfinals, we defeated NEC (54-48). The fatigue from so many consecutive games, up to three in a single day, took its toll towards the end of the event.
In the Semifinals, we beat the Brussels Select Team (40-41) in the final minutes and then defended our lead. And in the final, we faced the favorite, MSB Officiel, Le Mans Sarthe, a Pro A youth team, who took the title (81-48) in impressive fashion.
Congratulations to the winner, our delegation, and coaching staff. We traveled back to Torrejón de Ardoz more than satisfied with our performance, and now we are ready to finish the FBM seasons with extra energy.
