José Gismero with his personal and general summary of our TBS season

José Gismero has been a voice of experience at the Torrejón Basketball Academy for many years. It has seen generations of talent pass through, players who have reached the professional elite and national team level in FIBA, as well as boys and girls who used basketball to be better people, and end up being priceless memories at Joaquín Blume without a doubt. The coach and manager offers us his summary of the season with all the roller coaster of emotions experienced in this 2022-2023, and the appetizer of what is to come for the next campaign.

This year we started the season with another important boost in terms of the number of players, which made us grow another year in the number of teams, both in the Federated Leagues and in the Municipal League. In turn, the vast majority of the coaching staff has remained, which has provided us with continuity in our work.

Starting the assessment with the most competitive categories, the final result is very close to the expected objective.

The first team started the season with the loss of two important players, which left the team with only two veterans, the captain Roberto Donaire and the still Under-22 Jorge Herraíz, as the only connoisseurs of the VIPS League. This had an upset on the initial plans and meant that other players had to have a greater role. Even so, the first objective, which was to ensure permanence, was achieved quite quickly thanks to a very good first phase. It is true that in the second round, neither the game nor the results were as expected, where seniority in this league is a plus. Later, in the playoffs we competed quite well, eliminating the first place in the other group in the round of 16 and losing in the quarterfinals against the best team in the League and that would ultimately be champion, but competing in both games.

In Sub-22, Junior and Cadet we were on the verge of playing the Final Four, where perhaps in some cases we lacked a little more luck in the crosses. Even so, being classified for another year among the top 8 in Madrid in leagues as complicated as these, especially Junior and Cadet, I call it a success. The Infantil Special is perhaps the category where we have suffered the most. Starting the season in such a strong group has took a toll on the rest of the competition. In the rest of the men teams, Sub-22 Bronze, Preferred Juniors and Special and Preferred Cadets, and Children, a good job has been done, where the progress of the players at each level has been seen. Our Women teams continue to evolve. The Preferred Junior is perhaps the most established team and it shows in the results, although both the Cadet, an almost new team, and the Infantil team have made a lot of progress throughout the season.

In Mini categories, the 2011 Male Alevín has had a great season exceeding expectations, finishing first in his group and competing in the play-in, where he could not beat his rival. Although, in the next phase they won all their matches, finishing first in the group. In the case of the Girls, the evolution of the players has been very great since last year. Last but not least, I want to highlight the little ones that play in the Municipal League, where every year we have more players and more teams in the league. Highlighting if possible, the runner-up achieved by the Benjamin Mixed team in the Infantil Games organized by the Community of Madrid.

The forecasts for the coming season are very good. We are incorporating new players in all categories and the forecast is that we will significantly increase the number of teams in the different competitions. We are especially happy with the evolution of the women teams, where for the first time we hope to have two federated minis teams and four "big basket" squads. We also want to give an organizational and quality boost to the minis categories, both federated and municipal.

On a personal level, after many years I have once again sat on a bench, accompanying Colo Zuttion in the first team and directing the Benjamín Femenino in the Municipal League. Very different roles and teams but very rewarding and fun in both cases.
