Iván Aurrecoechea will begin his professional career outside of Spain, and in impressive fashion. This has certainly been a market coup, from one of the Nordic countries to take over and secure the services of the man of the house, who since the age of five has been filling us with pride here in the academy.

The Torrejón de Ardoz native signed with Þór Akureyri, an Icelandic team from the Úrvalsdeild Karla (Icelandic First Division) based in the town of Akureyri. An agreement for the entire 2020-2021 season the will take him to the pro ranks, after being one of the best performing Spaniards in recent years at the NCAA with his alma mater, New Mexico State.

The six foot eight tall power forward comes from being part of the select All-Tournament Team of the WAC Conference, averaging 11.4 points on 58% from the field, with 5.6 rebounds hauled in 31 games, for the conference champions who during Iván tenure at the Las Cruces program were WAC champions in consecutive seasons. In conference play, Aurrecoechea had averages of 13.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and three games of 20+ points that earned him the individual award.

On behalf of all the Torrejón Basketball Academy staff, we wish the best to another great ambassador who will start his professional path.

Congratulations, Ivan!
