Insa Kane: “Basketball is a legacy in our family”

Prensa TBS -

Basketball runs through the veins of Insa Kane. Looking back at his fathers heritage and passing along his brothers, one of them a player of the G-League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, Insa is next in line to the family´s throne. He hopes to emulate all of them. He´s that determined to do it.

When do you start falling in love with basketball, and from what age do you practice it given the family influence?

I can say that basketball is a family legacy in us, from my father who played it, Seydou, and two of my older brothers, Omar did it first, and now he´s dedicated to be a teacher, and the second, Ismaila Kane, who is a professional player nowadays in the G-League, of the NBA, I started playing from the age of 7 .

You have a big support from your older brother, "Iso". What could you tell us about him, being a role model for you and your career? The advice that he can give to you...

Yes, Ismaila, or as we all know him, Iso, is my role model in life, at the same time, he has become my greatest challenge, seeing everything that he has been able to accomplish. Why can´t I do it? He tells me to work hard, and to never stop training, to want to improve, and give the best of me on track.

Ismaila Kane signed in 2018 as a free agent with the Memphis Grizzlies after being undrafted in the NBA Draft 2018. He attended Atlanta Metropolitan, a JUCO of the State of Georgia, where he registered remarkable numbers. He averaged 14.0 PPG, 11.5 RPG and 1.7 BPG in the NJCAA, and despite having been able to continue his career in a powerful D-1 NCAA basketball program, he decided to embark on a career in professional basketball.

In 26G with the Memphis Hustle, of the Gatorade League franchise, or NBA Development League, the 6´9 center and Insa´s elder brother finished with averages of 2 points and 2 rebounds in almost 8 minutes per contest.

What is life like in Senegal? What do you miss the most about your country of origin?

I see that Senegal is a great country, only that it still lacks a bit of awareness - in realizing this. What I miss the most are the meals that my mother cooked for me, Mame Badji, the friends of childhood and the town, Bignona If I succeed in the future, I will start by improving my beautiful town first.

Besides your brother of course, you have another favorite player from Senegal ...

My brother is my favorite player, but apart from Iso, Papi Badio Brancou.

What made you choose Torrejón?

"I have decided to continue my development as a student/athlete at TBS Academy, thanks to David Sánz, because I believe it is the best for me, it is an ideal place to develop as a better player, and I think it has been the best choice that I could have taken".

"What I like the most about Spain is its way of being here, which is a very different tranquility from living life, I love the lifestyle they have in this country," says the Senegalese shooting guard, who is 1.96m (6´5) tall.

How would you describe your attributes as a basketball player, for those who have not seen you play yet?

"For those who have not seen me play, I am a player who grinds. A very aggressive wing, super fast, and when one is fast, you can not be elusive and evade challenges, as our wise ancestor Adouska Kane said".

Insa dreams of a future in the United States.

When I decide to take the next step, I will take the right path with my mentor, David, but my big dream is to play in Division 1 of the NCAA, and then get to the NBA. That is my only and longed dream, my great goal.
