Womens basketball is advancing, taking important steps in recent times, and that is part of a vindication of the female gender in todays societies, which, to a greater or lesser extent, has brought much joy. It was time for this to happen.

We have been able to see how in the best league in the world, the WNBA, wages have been increased considerably, or how in the League Día of our country you can see games in open tv signal and with crowded pavilions. Maite Cazorla in a span of a few months went from playing an NCAA Final Four, debuted in the Spanish national team as much as in the WNBA, and at 22 years old she hopes to be in the Tokyo Olympics. Another Spanish player in the elite that invites future generations to dream, and sow seeds. Those new Cazorla, Cruz, Valdemoro and so many more.

At TBS Academy we understand this, and we open the section of the Interview of the Month in this year 2020 with our first female protagonist in this section. Lets meet more of Julia Ontiveros Gálvez, one of the most talented girls in our academy:

How is your passion for playing basketball born? From what age do you practice it and what do you like most about this sport?

From a very young age I always had a basket in the room. I started playing at age six in school, on the Benjamin team. What I like about basketball is teamwork.

For those of us who do not know you, in which category do you play, what position and how tall are you? What are your strengths or skills on the court?

I currently play in BASKET TORREJÓN, federated U-14 category, and I usually play as a shooting guard or point guard. I measure 1.59 cm. My strengths are the ability to learn and the desire to improve, well they also say that I shoot very well! I was junior runner-up in Madrid with the Rivas ecopolis team in 2017/18.

Tell me what you think about your teams season so far? Goals? What is there to improve?

This season we are doing well but it is improvable, we have managed to qualify for the final ascent phase. The goal is to continue working for promotion.

Goals regarding basketball in the future? When you grow up, what would you like to study?

Continue as long as possible with my partners and without forgetting the studies. I have not decided yet, but I am interested in being a physiotherapist.

What famous players do you admire and why? Maybe some male player? My favorites are Amaya Valdemoro (I met her on a campus) and Laia Palau for her game address.

Do you think womens basketball has begun to match mens? Do you feel that there is general inequality?

No, I think that unfortunately there is still a difference. The courts do not fill up and we have less help.
